Here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you can't find the answer to your question, please email us at info@maitlandmentalhealth.com -- no question is too silly!
Therapy and consulting sessions are $175 / hr.
Testing fees vary depending on the type of evaluation administered. Most clients invest between $700 to $2,100. During our intake we will go through all of the options and make recommendations specifically for your child so there are no surprises!
A 20% non-refundable deposit is due in order to secure an appointment. Full payment is due at the time the service is provided. We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, debit, Zelle, & Venmo.
We have opted not to accept insurance due to respect for client privacy. (Did you know that in order for insurance to pay for counseling, you need to receive a mental health diagnosis that remains in your records?). Additionally, many insurance companies do not cover psycho-educational testing, & those who do will typically only reimburse a portion of the costs.
If requested, we can give you a "super-bill" statement to submit to your insurance provider in an effort to get reimbursed for using an out-of-network provider. Please note that this submission will be your responsibility & that we do not make any reimbursement guarantees.
The circumstances for each client vary. Some clients desire solution-focused therapy that only requires a few sessions, while others look for a long-term supportive relationship. We will talk about how frequently you should see us during your intake session. Generally speaking, we advise starting with weekly visits for the first month to establish momentum, & then adjusting as needed.
It may be frustrating for parents & students when learning becomes challenging. Poor grades and slow academic progress can lead to low self-esteem & self-confidence in children & a sense of helplessness in parents. A psycho-educational assessment can help find solutions to a child's learning challenges & often provides the answer to WHY your child is struggling in the first place.
While we are more than willing to work with your child's school and/or pediatrician to ensure that our recommendations are being implemented, our reports do not guarantee exceptional student education (ESE) placement at school or a medical diagnosis from your child's doctor.
It is not recommended to have parents or guardians sit in on testing as this can break standardization of the assessment. You are more than welcome to stay in our waiting area through the duration of your child's assessment, or we can call you to come pick up your child when the assessment is completed.
Results timelines vary depending on the scope of the evaluation. However, the average turnaround time for reports is two weeks from the date of testing.
We require 24-hours notice for cancellations in order to avoid a late cancellation / no-show fee. The late cancellation / no-show fee is the deposit paid at the time of booking. Please note that we do offer one grace period but are firm on our fee if a late cancellation / no-show occurs more than once.
School psychology is a field that applies principles from educational psychology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, community psychology, & behavior analysis to meet the learning & behavioral health needs of our youth. Basically, we're a mental health jack of all trades!
